GoldenFit Intuitive Eating

In our last post, we talked about how working out and exercising intuitively can play a key role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle long term. Today, we are going to discuss the concept of intuitive eating. This approach to eating and nutrition can help ease the stress of dieting that many experience, and can make a healthy lifestyle process simpler and more enjoyable.

Instead of worrying about how many calories you are eating, number of meals per day, and weighing out your food, you start first by completely focusing on eating healthy, nutrient dense foods. This is a crucial first step and takes a lot of focus.

When you concentrate only on the food choices, you usually have less of that mental stress that comes with dieting, and in the end, you have a more successful outcome. When you load your body up on nutrient dense food choices, the signals the body and mind send become more reliable.

For example, you have been eating clean and healthy, and then one afternoon you get a craving for a salty food. In this moment, the signal is more reliable because you have eliminated the processed foods from your diet.

This signal is most likely not in response to a craving for chips, but is most likely in response to your body actually wanting salt- maybe to replenish electrolytes after a workout or another necessary body function. Many times when we are stressed, our adrenal glands will crave healthy fats and salt, which would explain some of the foods we want when stressed.

Another example is carb/sugar cravings after a high intensity interval workout. This isn’t just a donut or dessert craving, but a reliable signal from the body to replenish muscle glycogen in the form of carbs/sugar after a depleting high heart rate workout.

So in conclusion, start eating intuitively by taking this first step: focus and concentrate completely on eating more nutrient dense foods, thus making the signals the mind and body send more reliable.
